Dear Parents,
Welcome to the last week of the 2023 - 2024 school year. It has been a huge privilege for me to get to be the principal at Sacred Heart Catholic School. I am grateful for your kindness and patience with me as I learned how this fabulous school works. Thank you for your ongoing and generous support of our school, and I look forward to getting to work with everyone again next year. Our school community is made up of the finest teachers, staff, parents, and students. At this point in my career, I can honestly say there is no place else I would rather be than at SHCS. Thank you for this tremendous opportunity and I promise to work hard for this school for as long as I get to be here.
On
Monday, students in grades 1,2, and 4 will be going to the Growing Forward Farm for a field trip. 6th and 7th graders will go to the tennis courts with Mrs. Head.
On
Tuesday, instead of morning prayer, we will have a special presentation by Mr. Burnham in the church at 8:15 AM. He will teach us all about the
history of the liturgy of mass. Everyone is invited to join us for this opportunity to learn from Mr. Burnham's wealth of knowledge. Tuesday is also the last day of the grading period.
On
Wednesday
at morning prayer, before prayer starts, classes will
“move up" to their new teacher and stand with her during prayer. We will start with moving the 7th graders up to 8th, 6th to 7th, and so on until Mrs. Tso is left standing all by herself. Everyone is invited to our first moving up ceremony.
On
Thursday, our
last day of school, we will have mass at 8:15 AM. Students can wear their spirit wear. After mass students will get their report card and go home for summer break. If we have any report cards left after students leave, they will be returned to the office for parents to pick up over the summer during our limited office hours. I know it might seem that coming to school only for mass is inconvenient, and we can talk about this for next year if anyone else has any strong feelings one way or the other, but I can honestly think of no better way to start summer vacation than by coming together one more time to celebrate our faith as a school, and to have one more blessing from Father Tim. I hope you will agree with me and send your student to school on Thursday or, better yet, come with your kiddo to mass. It might just be the best 45 minutes of your day.
Also, we will have a
new principal
on Thursday. Allow me to introduce Mr. Benjamin Franchini, who will be Principal for the Day. Mr. Franchini, one of our 6th graders, beat me at bowling on Wednesday twice, and I was so confident he could not beat me again that I told him he could be principal if I lost. Needless to say, I lost the third game so here we are. Mr. Franchini will be here to greet everyone at the door before school, then will sit near the back of the church to watch over Mass. If you have any concerns at SHCS, Thursday between the hours of 7:30 AM and 9:30 AM might be a good time to talk to the principal. Welcome, Mr. Franchini!
Mrs. Carla and I have set our
summer office hours.
The office will be closed from Friday, May 24 through Friday 31, and July 1 through 5.
The office will be open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 AM to 2 PM from June 3 to August 2.
The office will be open for regular hours beginning Monday, August 5.
I am always available through email and on my phone at 936-554-8752. Please do not hesitate to email, call, or text.
Mrs. Carla always checks email and voice mail, too.
Attached is information about a
tennis camp at FHS. I tried to get information about other camps and activities but was not able to at this time. If I receive any other information, I will pass it on to everyone. I hate for our students to miss out on great opportunities that our local schools offer.
Finally, I have one more update on our Chick-fil-A battle with Pinon Hills Academy. The marketing director emailed Mr. Kienitz and me on Monday and told us,
"Pinion Hills did win the battle. However, it was our second-busiest Battle of the Schools, so we are giving both schools $600 in Chick-fil-A food credit."
We will use the credit next year. Thank you for representing our school so well.
Happy summer! See you in August.
❤️, Kelly
