Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 16th week of school! Can you believe we only have two weeks left in semester 1?
At SHCS, one of our Philosophy Statements is: "We foster an environment where students are given opportunities to reach their greatest potential and recognize their unique talents and abilities." As I said last week, I love getting to know our students, especially in the relaxed atmosphere at lunch, and learning their unique talents and abilities that make up their individual personalities. 10:55 AM to noon is truly the best part of my day. But what is going on in the classrooms during the other six hours is what makes our school special for our students. All of our teachers work hard to create environments where our students have experiences and opportunities to help them learn and grow so that they can perform to the very best of their abilities. Our small class sizes allow our teachers to get to know their students, to find personalized ways to reach each student, and to offer opportunities throughout the day for our students to feel loved for their unique gifts. Our teachers are the greatest service our school has to offer, and our students, along with their families, are the greatest blessing our of school. Thank you all for trusting Sacred Heart Catholic School with your children.
Christmas Ornaments
A couple weeks ago, every student was given an ornament to decorate and bring back to school. We have two trees in the main building for students to hang their ornaments that they decorated. If your student has not brought back their ornament, will you please encourage them to do so? If your student cannot find his or her ornament, we have extras in the office. Those trees will be moved to the Family Center this Friday for our school Christmas party.
School Christmas Party
This Friday, December 8 at 6:00 PM is our school Christmas party. All students and their families are invited. Tina Trujillo and Mrs. Carla have been planning this party, so you know it will be wonderful, just like the Fall Fest was; they make a great team. The deadline to RSVP was Friday, but I know if you email the office RIGHT NW, Mrs.Carla will get your family on the list. There will be eggnog, desserts, a story with Santa, gifts for the children, and other fun things to day, so please wear your PJs and join us.
8th Grade Pizza Sale
The 8th graders sold $278 worth of pizza on Monday. We will do it again on December 11. They have raised almost $1000 to put towards their Legacy Project.
Native American Heritage Lunch
Our lunch on Wednesday in recognition of Native American Heritage Month was wonderful. Thanks to everyone who was able to attend, and to everyone who made it so great. We had artwork displayed from Mrs. Atencio's 1st graders and Mrs. Lange's 3rd graders; Mrs. Benally's kindergarten class sang their Good Morning song in Navajo; Ms. Elmer's 4th graders sang about our great state of New Mexico; we had yummy fry bread from Mrs. Tso; and we had amazing Navajo tacos from Mrs. Idzerda and her 5th grade class. We had so much fun we will do it again soon!
Christmas Lunch
Families and guests are invited to lunch on Wednesday, December 13, to celebrate Christmas. Hot lunch is baked ham, macaroni and cheese, green beans, dinner roll, and a dessert. Meals for guests are $5.00 each. Mrs. Carla needs to know by 3:30 PM on Monday, December 11 if you would like a hot lunch. Please know how very, very welcome you are, and hope you can attend.
St. Nick Shop
The international Appreciation Club will have their St. Nick Shop in the library beginning Monday, December 4. Please bring to the library any items you are interested in donating so students can shop for Christmas presents during Library class, lunch, and after school. I've been snooping around there this afternoon and there are some great gifts available. Everything is priced at $5.00 or less and members of the IA Club will wrap all gifts that are purchased.
Quarter 2 Progress Reports
The second three weeks of quarter 2 ended on Friday. Progress Reports will be printed and sent home on Wednesday, December 6. Grades on the Progress Report will reflect the grades that are current in GradeLink at the time of printing. Remember to check GradeLink for individual assignment grades.
Choir Performance at the Convention Center
Mrs. Gapinksi will be taking our choir to the Republican Women's Luncheon on Thursday, December 8 to perform Christmas songs. They will leave around 11:45, walk to the convention center, and will return around 12:45.

Save the Date for Parent Meeting on Wednesday, January 10, 2024
We will have a very important meeting for all parents on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 6:00 PM in the Family Center. We will be discussing our budget, tuition for next year, and spring fundraising. Will you please try to have at least one parent from each family attend the meeting?
SHCS Family Handbook
We are currently in the process of updating our handbook to make it as accurate as possible. Some of the guidelines are no longer applicable, and there are some expectations that need clarified. One of the bullet points under Healthy Snacks was that "Teachers will act as role models for their students by modeling good eating habits and exercising daily." I believe I was drinking a Dr. Pepper and eating candy when I read that part. And, unless you count the 100 times I go up and down the stairs each day, I certainly do not model exercising daily. That statement most definitely will not be in the updated handbook.
We expect to have the handbook to be updated early this week and we will have it posted on our website. I will also email you to let you know it has been posted.
Uniforms
Our school uniforms are a source of pride for our school. Our students were easily recognized as SHCS students at the Teddy Bear Tea last Thursday because of their school uniform. Seeing all of our students dressed in our school uniform at morning prayer and at mass on Friday is truly a beautiful thing to see. We recognize that for the majority of our students, a parent is usually deciding what the student will wear to school and to do that, our parents must have the most accurate information possible. The updated handbook will provide clarification for uniforms, especially leggings for the girls, appropriate mass shoes for the boys, and information regarding acceptable hoodies, jackets, sweaters, and coats. We want to continue the long-standing tradition of having our students dressed uniformly to show the pride that we have in our wonderful school. Don't worry; there are no big changes or nothing new to buy.
As always, you are most welcome at morning prayer at 7:55 AM Monday through Thursday, and mass at 8:15 AM on Fridays.
I hope you have a great week.
❤️, Kelly
