Dear Parents,
It's Catholic Schools Week!
Download the schedule here. I just wanted to add that students who do not want to dress up each day can wear their uniform or spirit clothes. This week is to show our pride in our school so spirit wear is just fine (but we hope they dress up!)
On
Monday, Penny Wars begin, so round up all the pennies you can find to help your student's class win! Paper money and checks count as pennies to add to the class total, but silver coins can be used to decrease points for other classes. Students can wear crazy socks and crazy hairstyles to school on Monday.
Students can wear their PJs to school on
Tuesday, and we will have ice cream sundaes for them at lunch.
If you have not given Mrs. Carla a note for your student from you, will you please do so ASAP? We don't want any kid to not have a kind note from a parent when they read them in class on Tuesday. My heart hurts just thinking about that! There was a notecard in the packet we sent home, but it can be written on anything. We will also be sending home the Dream Vacation raffle tickets on Tuesday.
On
Wednesday, students can dress to look like what they want to be when they grow up. The hearts that each student decorated will be given to the senior center.
I can't wait to see how our students dress as teachers on
Thursday! They can dress as their current teacher, a different teacher at SHCS, or as a teacher in general. We will hang all of the taco notes that the students wrote so the teachers can read the students' kind words to them.
On
Friday, students can wear red, white, and blue clothes and they do not have to wear their mass uniform. We will have lunch for guests, hosted by the 3rd grade. We will be serving spaghetti, with green beans, bread, dessert, and a drink. The cost per plate is $10. Since we are doing most of the cooking and we need to know how much of everything to buy,
please let Mrs. Carla know by 3:30 PM on Tuesday, January 30 how many spaghetti plates you would like. Of course, you are always welcome to bring in food with you. During lunch we will show the SHCS video that Mrs. S and the students have been making, and students in grades two through four will be performing. I sure hope you can join us! We have early release at 1:00, but you can take your student with you if you come for lunch, so you do not have to make a trip back to school.
Dream Vacation Raffle
We will start our third fundraising activity for the year on Tuesday, January 30. The grand prize is a Caribbean cruise. There are also three other mini vacations for 2nd through 4th place. Tickets are $25.00 and we are asking each family to sell 12 tickets. Money is due to Mrs. Carla by Friday, March 1, and the drawing will be held on Friday, March 8. There is no school that day so we will have the drawing live on Facebook. Mrs. Carla has set up volunteer opportunities to sell tickets at all masses at Sacred Heart. If you would like to sell tickets at another parish, please let Mrs. Carla know. The family that sells the most raffle tickets will win a $100 gas card.
New TV
Did you see the new (donated) TV by the office? Mrs. S has set it up so that pictures of our students constantly show on the screen. Stop by and look!
Valentine’s Day Parties
Since Valentine’s Day is on Ash Wednesday this year, several teachers have suggested that we have our Valentine’s Day parties on Tuesday, February 13. I think that is a great idea. To add to the fun, we will also make that a Free Dress Day for students. They do not have to wear their uniform or spirit wear that day but can wear anything they want that is appropriate.

We are invited to:

Save the Date! Works of Mercy Spring Project
Our second big project for our Works of Mercy Family Club is to complete small projects around our school on the weekend of April 20 and 21. Some of the projects already requested are to fix the blinds in some of our classrooms, complete the greenhouse, install a sprinkler system for landscaping, add landscaping, clean out our storage buildings, and clean our playground equipment. Everyone is welcome. We will serve hot dogs for lunch. If you are interested in leading any of these projects, or if you know of any other projects that could benefit our school, please let me know. Our Works of Mercy Family Club is one of the ways our students, staff, and parents have opportunity to participate in service projects.
8th Grade Pizza Sales
We had to delay lunch by over an hour last Monday because of issues with Little Caesars. This was the second time it has happened this year. The parent who helps us with picking up the pizza was able to get us a good deal at Pizza Hut, but the 8th graders barely made any money for their Legacy Project. We had Little Caesars gift cards donated to the school so that is why we have used them...the pizza was free! I will look at the February menu and schedule a pizza day because the kiddos seem to love it, but we will have to raise the price, unfortunately. I am so sorry about that. The new price will be $4 per slice, and we will make sure the pizzas are cut in big slices.
Night to Remember Planning Committee Meeting
From Mrs. Carla:
If anyone is interested in being on the committee, we will have our first meeting on February 7 at 6pm in the workroom. If you are interested but can’t attend the meeting, please let me (Mrs. Carla) know. This is a great way to get some volunteer hours!
It would be so wonderful if we could fill the gym with parents for morning prayer this week to celebrate Catholic Schools Week. Thank you for trusting Sacred Heart Catholic School with your children.
